Movement Qualities
When all movement factors of a body action are performed with the same attitude, either fighting or giving in, two main movement qualities can be defined.
Fighting Attitude
-Peripheral in Space
-Urgent in Time
-Strong in Force
-Bound in Flow
Results in a strong, direct, controlled, and veloce Body action
Giving in Attitude
-Central in Space
-Leisurely in Time
-Soft in Weight/Energy
-Free in Flow
Results in a soft, weightless, unhurried and aimless body action
Out of this analysis the
8 Basic Movement qualities can be established.
Schweben
Actions as: floating, gliding, drifting, flying, hovering
-Force-Soft
-Time-Un Urgent
-Space-Central
-Flow-Bound
Is a soft, delicate and almost weightless movement quality.
Moves within the inner body space rather than addressing outwards. Produces more roundish movements and is accomplished without any urgency and with a fine controlled flow quality.
It’s rather an action of Being than Doing
Schlottern
Action as: bubbling, trembling, shaking, vibrating, boiling
Force-Soft
Time-Urgent
Space-Central
Flow-Free
Is a quick, impulsive, soft and almost weightless body action.
Rather small, little, roundish and central body movements than space taking actions. Aimless and free-floating gestures without any direct space intension. Light and soft muscular tension.
It’s rather an action of Being than Doing.
Peitschen
Action as: throwing, whipping, lashing, striking
Force-Strong
Time-Urgent
Space-Central
Flow-Free
Is a forceful, uncontrolled, free floating body action. With an intense and out bursting energy. Without a clear spatial intension. More internal space action with a central initiation.
It’s rather an action of Being than Doing
Wringen
Action as: twisting, wringing out, wrestling, pushing, contracting
Force-Strong
Time-Un Urgent
Space-Central
Flow-Bounded
Is an entirely controlled, bounded and very forceful body action. Executed without any time rush or urgency. With a permanent muscular resistance and a fighting and struggling essence.
No permanent shape is established but a continuous, slow and internal body movement can be perceived within the body or body part.
Stossen
Actions as: kicking, boxing, hitting, punching, striking
Force-Strong
Time-Urgent
Space-Peripheral
Flow-Free
Is a spatial precise, direct and powerful body action.
A fast and urgent movement that penetrates space in a precise and effective manner. Moving with a lot of force.
Energetic, direct and fast in its essence. It’s rather a moving body shape than a movement within the body or body part.
Ziehen
Action as: pulling, pushing, dragging, pressing
Force-Strong
Time-Un-Urgent
Space-Peripheral
Flow-Bounded
An energetic, forceful and controlled body action. A direct penetrating space action, which develops slow in time, with an un-urgent time attitude. Entirely outside space related. The body movement connects with the space around, as it would cut it or push it. Always guided by the peripheral part of the body. No internal attitude.
Gleiten
Actions as: dusting, cleaning, brushing, wiping, floating
Force-Soft
Time-Un-Urgent
Space-Peripheral
Flow-Bounded
A soft, delicate and direct body action. With little resisting muscular force and a fine and easy movement-flow-control.
Indulging in time and moving through space in a direct more functional than affecting manner. It is rather a moving body shape than a movement within the body
Flattern
Actions as: flicking, tapping, waving, trembling
Force-Soft
Time-Quick
Space-Direct
Flow-Free
A quick, gentle and soft body action. With little muscular force executed. Direct and peripheral space action with a free movement-flow. Rather a moving shape than a movement within the body.
